Pen Timer Devlog 0

TLDR; this is a hobby project I'm building with Godot 4 and Blender. The name "Pen Timer" is just a placeholder for now.

You can go straight to the end of this page, download the game and play it. I will appreciate your feedback (i.e. personally or with this form). I am  willing to release parts of the code as open source in Github, once I have a clear plan for it. Many thanks!

Alright, now if you have a bit more time...

About 1 month ago, I have written this post in r/godot, sharing my 1 day experience trying Godot for the first time. 1 day later I recorded this video with a bit further progress:

The reason why I was trying Godot, was that Unity announced a new price model which shocked the whole community around that game engine. I have been using Unity for a few years, which I used to build games such as Neutrino, but I the main reason why I didn't try Godot before was the inertia of using framework and tooling of my own convenience. The new price model was the push I needed, and however it hardly would affect me, the fact that I was looking for a new game idea to build and trying something new and open source gave me an extra fuel.

I then came up with this very simple idea: what if you play with a pen, which health is made of ink, and you must reach to a next target before your ink is all spent?

The next idea came from my son: what if you play with a Pen which  dream is to become a Dove, so that you can fly? Hey, there's something who can transform things into doves: a Magic Hat!

That's how I came to this point: the story of a humble Pen who's dream is to fly, and in their way to achieve such a dream, they must find a Magic Hat, not before than following the mighty of a Wise Pencil. That's meant to be an adventure game with hidden secrets and exploration.

And this today, is the first release of a playable prototype. It's played on a simplified version of what's meant to be the first chapter of this story. This game is going to be a small and cosy game, where the main skills will be focused on solving challenges more than on combats.

If you reached this far, I appreciate the attention. Please download the file compatible with your operating system (I haven't tried myself the Linux version), and provide me feedback the way you find better, be it as a comment below, via direct contact or by the Google Form I'm linking below.

I'm willing to publish parts of the code as open source in this Github repository: https://github.com/marinho/pen-timer but, I still haven't, as I don't have a good plan yet.

Many thanks!
